Luxembourgish through play

The app that helps kids learn their first Luxembourgish words, even when nobody speaks it at home.

Through play, Kawi walks with them before and during précoce and Spillschoul (cycle 1): to arrive on familiar ground, then grow in confidence.

What your child will experience

Three things that change everything, long before they can read.

They hear the real language

Every word is spoken with the reference pronunciation from the official LOD.lu dictionary.

They dare to get it wrong

Nobody corrects them, nobody marks them. They listen, they repeat, they start again as many times as they like.

They arrive on familiar ground

On the first day at précoce or Spillschoul, some of the teacher's words already sound familiar.

What the app does

A journey that adapts to your child.

App screen: the journey map

A journey across the country

From the Éislek farm to the orchards and the Schueberfouer, each illustrated place opens up new words.

App screen: the choice of games

Plenty of games

Listen and tap, memory, find it in the scene, counting, putting in order: the game changes, the words come back.

App screen: a game in progress

The game adjusts to them

Kawi adjusts the difficulty on its own, based on what your child actually gets right.

App screen: the parent help, with word translations

You learn alongside them

Everything is in your language (French, German, English or Portuguese), with the translation and pronunciation of every word.

App screen: Kawi on a tablet

Phone or tablet

Portrait or landscape, and even with no connection.

App screen: the list of themes

Free to start

Two places on the journey and a few themes, with no time limit. A subscription then opens everything, for all your children.

No date of birth, no ad tracking, optional online backup.

Parents ask

What is the best app for kids to learn Luxembourgish?

Which app works for a child who can't read yet?+
Between 3 and 6, everything goes through listening and touch: you need an app with no text to read, real voices and short sessions. Kawi says every word with the official pronunciation of the LOD.lu dictionary, with no ads. Our criteria, app by app: ad-free apps for 3-year-olds.
Is there a free app to learn Luxembourgish?+
For you as a parent, LLO.lu, from the National Institute for Languages, is free, with a level test and online exercises. For your child, Kawi is free to start.
Does Duolingo do Luxembourgish?+
We looked at what Duolingo offers, and at what works at this age: Duolingo and Luxembourgish for kids.
From what age?+
From 3, ideally before your child starts précoce, so some classroom words are no longer strangers on the first day.

Kawi TV, first words on video.

Short videos to watch with your child: they listen, find the picture, then try saying the word. Everyday themes, from the body to farm animals.
