Luxembourg school holidays: the 2026-2027 calendar.
The official dates from the Ministry of Education for the three school years already set, and what they mean for a child aged 3 to 6. The school words (cycle 1, maison relais, childcare voucher) are explained in the Luxembourg school glossary.

Précoce and Spillschoul: the same calendar
This is the calendar of Luxembourg's public elementary education, so it is also the calendar of cycle 1: the précoce, from age 3, then the two years of Spillschoul. One day only applies to elementary school: St Nicholas' Day, 6 December, is a day off in 2027 and 2028. In 2026 it falls on a Sunday.
European schools and private schools publish their own calendars: check with yours. The French version of the ministry page is the reference: its English page gives Saturday 15 July 2028 as the last day of 2027-2028, where the French and German pages say Friday 14 July 2028.
During the holidays: crèche and maison relais
For a child of compulsory school age (4 by 1 September), care in a maison relais and the midday meal are free during school periods. During the holidays, care facilities charge the childcare voucher (chèque-service accueil) rates, and the meal stays free only if the household income is below twice the social minimum wage. The précoce is not covered by this free care. For a child not yet in school, holiday care costs are capped at 100 euros a week, meals extra.

The holidays, a break from Luxembourgish
At the précoce, your child hears Luxembourgish all day. If nobody speaks it at home, two weeks off, and above all the nine weeks of summer, interrupt that immersion. Nothing serious: at this age, a few minutes a day keep the words alive. Sing Luxembourgish nursery rhymes in the car, and listen again to the first classroom words with their official pronunciation.
